I have the feeling that from now on till Xmas, things are going to be a bit crazy. Midterms are approching quickly and projects are still taking most of my time. I'm going to enjoy my Xmas break SO much! I finally bought my tickets for Europe and Oregon. I'm definitely broke now but it's going to be a freaking awesome break ;)
I went out with some girls from my class last night (our first girls night out of the year). I enjoyed the band and the dancing a lot, even though next time I think we should ask some guys to join us ;)
So this week-end is mostly gonna be work work and work though I'm planning on doing some of it while sitting in the shaddow of a tree in Piedmont Park ;)

Who's to blame...
Here is what I found page 61 of the "Time" of September 25, 2006.
The title of the ad is: "HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH AN ENEMY THAT HAS NO GOVERNMENT, NO MONEY TRAIL AND NO QUALMS ABOUT KILLING WOMEN AND CHILDREN?"
Obviously your first thought is for terrorrism. Wrong! The ad keeps going as follow: "The enemy is Mother Nature. And on August 29, 2005, in the form on Hurricane Katrina, she killed 1,836 people, devastated a land area larger than Great Britain and caused over 100 billion dollars worth of destruction. Even when her wrath isn't as grand, she is still accountable every year for almost 500 American deaths and 14 billion dollars worth of damage. It's time we started fighting back. (...)". From Protecting America.
Though the intention of the organization is very laudable (raising people's awareness on how to prepare for natural disasters and what to do when they strike), I'm really shocked by the tone used and the way this is presented. It's so easy to blame Mother Nature, a lot easier than blaming us for the harm we have been doing to this planet for centuries. When are people going to understand that there are consequences for their actions? and take reponsibility for them???? Mother Nature is not the one to blame here. We are (at some point I thought they were going to tell us that S. Hussein was responsible for what happened in New Orleans). Mother Nature has been feeding us for thousand years, providing us with remedies and vital resources.
And why should life always be about enemies to fight??? Not tired of wars yet????
What is tragic about Hurricane Katrina is the way the whole situation was managed, and all the people who were left behind. And maybe even more tragic is to see that nobody's learning the lessons from the past. Keep messing with Mother Nature and hurricanes like Katrina will be the least of our problems! Finally some reading for the thought: Kyoto Protocol.
Yes I'm pissed!

There is a guy on a boat having a good time... ;)
Got a phone call from my brother tonite, asking me what stars were made of. After I told him, he explained me that he was actually on a boat, somewhere between St Barth and St Martin, stargazzing and that he was just wondering. Obviously he wasn't alone either ;) Damn, I should have done my internship like him, on a island in the Carribbean... I'm just so happy he's having a great time.
My evening was far to be as romantic: sushis and a bunch of articles to read for tomorrow. I got a good lazy week-end though. Took saturday off and went biking to Piedmont Park this afternoon. The park is really nice and pretty big too. There were tons of kids and dogs playing around. The weather here is getting just awesome - dry and warm and sunbathing in September is really nice. I'm getting used to the life here. I just wish I had somebody to share things with. There is a guy playing the trumpet every evening 200 ft away from my place. This is really cool. I leave the windows opened just to listen to him.
School is going well too. I may actually start working on my PhD project sooner than I was expecting. Things seem to fall into place. So all is good for now, just feeling a bit lonely. Time to go back to my papers and some ice-cream ;)

Glups!
$645 to fly from Atlanta to Fort Walton Beach and back... Feel like they won't be any week-end on the beach :(
And $500 to fly to PDX... I can start saving money.

Updaaaaate!!!
So many things happened that I don't even know where to start... I guess I'll go with the beginning... My very first week in Atlanta consisted in moving boxes, assembling furniture and trying no to loose any finger in between. My first night was a camping experience but I guess that's what happened when you move in without any furniture ;) How's that for a romantic diner?

So I now have a cozy place and since last thursday I even have a Futon and a table. So no diners over the keyboard anymore ;) And you can also come visit, you won't be sleeping on the floor! Here's my biggest pride (almost broke my wrist assembling that one...)

My first week of classes at GT went well though I was mainly busy preparing the internship presentation I had to give at ISU. So the first week passed by pretty fast and I was in the plane for Frankfurt without really realizing it!

Being back to France was weird and the transition between Atlanta and Strasbourg was pretty abrupt. But seeing my ISU friends was great! And obvisouly seing my parents and my sister was wonderful. It was nice to have them in the audience during my presentation. So my stay in Strasbourg was short but damn good! We went back to Club 7 for some good all-night dancing and we all got emotional during Anna's graduation speech. I had to leave right after graduation and it was really tough to say Bye to everybody, especially when you don't know when you're going to see these smilling faces again... So I spent saturday in Switzerland, fixing computers and trying to pack the few things I left at Mom's before leaving for Michigan. I say "trying" because Luke, the lovely animal you see below, loves jumping into boxes, so I had to be careful not to post the cat ;)

By Sunday afternoon I was back in Atlanta and went right to bed. I spent the following week trying to catch up on both work and sleep. I still have lots to do though.
So these last 3 weeks were really intense but I have now completed my third Masters (no more Masters I swear), have a nice apartment and only one thing to focus on: my classes at GT (my new boot camp!).
Finally, here's what I found while shopping at WholeFoods the other day:

For most of you this is only bottled water but THIS water is the one I drank for 22 years when living in France. Obviously they sell it the price of gold but I couldn't resist ;)
So I think that's about it for the news so far. I'm enjoying the" hot and not so humid anymore" weather of Atlanta and now that my bike is fixed, I'll soon go explore Piedmont Park... Send me news!

France 3 - 1 Italy
Since it was recently brought to my attention that Europe is not the World (I won't comment on that...), I want to make sure that the rest of the World, and especially you Matjaz, know about it: WE WON!!!
Ok, now that this is done I'm going back to my aircraft design chapters... more soon ;)
